American Community Survey, First Street Foundation Flood Model, Redfin Investor Market Share
For my Quantitative Reasoning course, my team conducted a statistical analysis of climate gentrification risk factors in Atlanta, GA. We were particularly interested in the relationship between flood risk, investor share, and demographic risk criteria. Our results showed:
Atlanta metropolitan zip code areas with higher percentages of select marginalized populations (particularly Black residents) are more likely to have higher share of investor purchases in their housing markets; and,
As average flood risk goes down, investor share of the housing market goes up—and as investor share goes up, flood risk goes down.
