Hi, I'm Joy
she/her
I'm a community-based planner, designer, and researcher
I'm committed to using my skills to tackle cities' toughest challenges. In recently attaining a Master's in City Planning, I shifted from a career in data analytics to urban planning to better equip myself to work on issues of environmental, mobility, and economic justice. I thrive in creative, high-impact roles that get me out into the city, talking to people. In my work, I'm committed to centering those closest to a problem in the design and decision-making processes. I created this website to help me articulate my story and my work. If any of this resonates with you and you'd like to chat - feel free to reach out.

personal theory of practice
Through my work, learning, and reflection, my personal theory of practice is always evolving. For now, this is what feels true for me. I view planning as a tool for distributive, procedural, and recognition justice. I believe that planning must be rooted in the needs and voices of the people it serves, prioritizing thriving communities over profit-driven motives. My work is guided by principles of care, belonging, humility, joy, and abundance. I'm committed to transparency, accountability, and collective healing and truth-seeking. I see my role not as a technical expert but as a facilitator, educator, and advocate who seeks to empower folks to shape their own futures. I prioritize deep, inclusive engagement, ensuring that planning processes are co-created with the community and that marginalized voices are at the forefront of decision-making. My approach to problem-solving is holistic and research-driven, incorporating a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods to develop solutions that are both empathetic and effective. I aim to be a leader who is deeply rooted in community, advocating for sustainable, long-term change that reflects the desires and needs of the people.
